Rafa’s White & Orange Shoes That Would be Banned Anyway

Roger Federer got his shoes banned from Wimbledon. Nike Tennis designed a special colorway featuring a white upper and a vibrant Orange grass outsole, but apparently it was too much color. Wimbledon’s all-white rule can be loosely enforced at times. Other players wear bursts of color on their socks and shoes and raise no objection from officials. But these orange soles crossed the line, apparently. Nike has also prepared an identical colorway of the Nike Air Max Courtballistec 4.3 for Rafael Nadal, but he didn’t get to wear them. Maybe it was slated for one of the later rounds, but we did get to watch only one game. The shoes are still available at Nike Tennis retailers in Europe in limited fashion for 130 Euros.

The GRS version of the Courtballistec 4.3 is designed specifically for the green lawn at the All England Club, thanks to a Lunarlon cushioning a springy, responsive ride. The shoe also features a flat, dimpled outsole that allows players to move around on the grass without slipping.
